All I can say is "wow..." where do you start talking about a trip that has taxed you spiritually, physically, emotionally, verbally, and in so many ways that I don't have words to describe. We've seen tears, we've laughed until we hurt, and we've ministered to countless people in pursuit of Christ's greatest commandment. I have to give the glory to God, for making this the chance and trip of a lifetime, and thank him for knitting this team of people together so close that there are bonds that were formed that I'm proud to be a part of.
I think the most surprising part of this to me is not so much the physical devastation that's STILL left 2+ years later but more importantly the human tragedy, and suffering that is rampant down here. Marriages and relationships that have been severely strained, or broken, lives lost because of the mental health system crumbling under the epidemic sized need down here, and seeing how in the midst of all this, God is here..Working into the crevasses and into the lives & hearts of anyone he can get to.
My heart is forever broken for this community, and for these people, every time I think about the stories of survival that we have heard, and the destruction here, I begin to weep, thinking about how many people lost it all, up to and including their lives. On the flip side of that, the Christian Life Center, which is the ministry / Church that we are partnering with is greatly making an impact down here, our team got to assist in moving the new Pastor & his wife into their home after 2 years of waiting, and also complete or come extremely close to completing 2+ other jobs that will and have blessed the homeowners that are affected.
My Prayer is that after we leave the ministry that we were a part of continues, and they need prayer support 24-7-365 for as long as we all can provide it. There are estimates that it will take another 6-10 years of Volunteer efforts to finish the rebuilding here. That's too long in my opinion. And my challenge to all who read this is that you would support them somehow, be it in Prayer, or your time, or your financial support. The hands & feet of Christ are here, and lives are being changed, and homes & families being rebuilt. THAT'S Kingdom stuff. And I praise God for the opportunity and privilege to be a tiny little part of it.
This is dedicated to the People of Waveland, and Bay St. Louis Mississippi, May they all be held up by the Love of Christ, and the Grace of God. In Jesus name... AMEN.
