The Face Of Jesus

I'm sure if you've managed to stumble across this blog, that you have been around the internet, or seen the news of the tragedy in Pennsylvania. This past week, America got a glimpse of Jesus. It happened at a time when most of us wanted to be angry at a man who killed 5 girls, and at a time when this sort of happening was starting to be seen as a common thing according to the news-media, and becoming an alarming trend. As we all watched a community that many in America view as "backwards" or "Old-Fashioned" went in a direction this country has yet to go: Forward. We all watched as these people who seem to be in a time-warp warped our own sense of humility and sacrifice as they Not only forgave, but reached out to help those people who were family members of the person that killed their loved ones. We all watched them say to the public, and to themselves "We must not be angry at this man, but we must pray for him" This is something I wish America would return to, it's heritage as a country where people all loved one another as their own, instead of dividing ourselves along political, racial, economic, social or other boundaries that are ripping this country apart. Non-Christians often ask believers; "what does Jesus look like?" Or "Why do you believe in Jesus?" Well, my answer lies in a community half a country away, where Jesus showed up in the faces of people under the gravest circumstances, and helped heal them, and those around them. To me Jesus is the sight of an Amish man, burying 5 daughters that were slain and then reaching out to the person who did it, and trying to help him and his family as well. You show me the face of one of those people, and I'll show you the face of Christ.
